Another
month and no rain, the rivers are all showing their bones, therefore it’s
quite an easy task to report this month, as all rods have remained in their
cupboards.
Even the
usual lies, which hold some sewin irrespective of water levels, have remained
untenanted. neither are there any reports of fish showing in the Menai Straits
or Caernarfon bay. From what I can gather this is the situation throughout North
Wales. However one must not be too despondent and a truer picture will emerge
once we get some appreciable rain, although this seems very unlikely at the
moment.
As a
society we are extremely lucky to be able to offer first class lake fishing as
an alternative to the rivers, and all lakes have fished very well, although the
natural brown trout will become less active during the day throughout July and
August, so change tactics, start fishing about 9pm, on Cwellyn during these
months some first class sedge fishing can be experienced during darkness.
Llyn
Dywarchen, is presently the star performer, no doubt due to the improved
stocking policy, during July the average weight of stocked rainbows will be well
in excess of 2lbs, as we move into August, the average weight will continue to
increase.
Plans
for the further development of the club continues to move ahead, and we hope to
be starting on detailed plans for building regulation approval for the Crawia
Anglers Centre, Llanrug. From here we hope to develop our adult and youth
coaching schemes.
Likewise
plans for the angler’s shelter at Pontrug are to be drawn up. These new
facilities will enhance the fishing experience in the corner of Gwynedd for both
local and visiting anglers alike.
Completion
of the Melin y Cim project is now running 10c months behind schedule, most of
this delay can be attributed to design changes and unexpected hold ups due the
construction of alternative accommodation for the lesser horseshoe bats, which
used the old mill as a summer roost. Another three months so should see work
coming to a close, I seem to be dealing more with bats that fish of late, It’s
getting dark – must fly.
Prospects – Hopefully excellent once rain comes. Charr fishing on Padarn however should be good through July into late September; high pressure and low water conditions are ideal. Try early morning and evening. I get some good sport trolling a size 4 or 5 mepp on a long line with a 20gm. Wye lead, and remember to use an anti kink vane.
