Building a set
A complete or 'full set' can be built up in
stages.
Beginners may start with a 'practice set'
consisting of a pair of bellows, a bag and a chanter.
To this 'practice set' a mainstock with drones
can be added, converting it into a 'half-set.'
The tenor, baritone and bass drones are tuned
into three octaves to the bottom notes of the chanter. They can
be switched on and off with a switch on the mainstock.
Later the tenor and baritone regulators can be
added, making this 'half-set' into a 'three-quarter-set.'
Finally, the addition of a bass regulator
turns it into a complete 'full-set.'
