What sort of fish is it?
Some would describe it as a fish as old as the mountains in whose shadows it swims. They certainly have been here since the retreat of the glaciers some 10,000 or more years ago.
It's certainly a beautiful fish, E. Donovan author of A Natural History of British Fishes 1802-1808 speaks of the Welsh Charr or Torgoch as it is known in this area "Of an elegant somewhat slender shape, the headlong and rather pointed, and its colour splendid beyond all example among indigenous fishes of this country"
Beautiful it certainly is, with the variation in colour throughout the season is something to behold, that's the reason probably that some of us spend so much time in this persuit.
