Arctic Charr Project News.
Salmon and sea trout are culinary delights, these pale into insignificance compared to the Arctic Charr from Llyn Padarn known locally as the Torgoch and much in demand by local restaurants.
As the society control the fishing on Padarn it is our responsibility to safeguard their future. It is also a requirement that we work to cooperate with local business to improve and promote quality ventures. This becomes difficult when demand for a very limited resource is high. So high in fact that we prohibit the sale of charr caught in our waters.
In order to capitalise on a ready market, and with assistance from Gwynedd Council through their Cwlwm Gwledig Scheme, Environment Agency and Countryside Council for Wales, we have obtained ova from the Padarn Charr for a trial raring period at our Crawia Hatchery. If we are successful in raring these fish to a size of about 10 12ins. Then hopefully we can start to offer locally farmed Torgoch Padarn. to local restaurants and hotels.
There is great interest in this scheme and you require further info then get in touch.
