LLYN PADARN
A two mile long
lake at the entrance of the famous Llanberis Pass, on the northern flank of
Snowdon, and guarded on one side by Dolbadarn Castle, where stories
abound to excite and stir the heart. Here Llewelyn Prince of Gwynedd,
imprisoned his brother Owain Goch between 1255 and 1277. Wonder at the vast
empty galleried workings of the disused Dinorwic Slate Quarry, once the largest
in the world, where once over 3,000 quarrymen were employed. The lake boasts
excellent Brown Trout fishing from the season’s opening on 20 March. During the
summer months, outstanding sport can be had with Alpine Char, both outstanding
in appearance and taste. Salmon and Seatrout can also be caught but the main
fishing effort is for Brown Trout and Char. Boats are available for hire.
LLYN
CWELLYN
Situated on the western side of Snowdon and, although skirted by the A4085
Caernarfon to Beddgelert road, this lake is situated in desolate but stunning
countryside. This is the area where the giant Cidwm wrought havoc amongst the
Roman legions and the Black Prince roamed with his hunting parties in search of
wild game. It is a land of swirling mists and haunting legends to rival any
which one encounters when travelling the Emerald Isle. Fishing here is truly
outstanding, with the free-rising wild Brown Trout rivalling any to be had
elsewhere within these islands. The Season here gets underway towards early May
as the water is some 200ft higher than Llyn Padarn and takes longer to warm up.
Char are also resident here, but are smaller than their Padarn brethren.
LLYN NANTLLE
LLYN NANTLLE. From here at the upper end of the Nantlle
valley and the gateway
to Drws-Y-Coed, the most spectacular
views of Snowdon can be experienced. One of
only two lakes in Wales where Salmon and Seatrout are regularly caught. Fishing here is strictly controlled and by boat only. Advanced bookings are essential.

LLYN DYWARCHEN
LLYN DYWARCHEN - ‘The lake of the Turf Island’, so called because of its famous
floating island refered to by Giraldus in 1188 AD, on of
the trio of lakes which forms the birth of the river Gwyrfai, the others being
Cwellyn and Y Gadair.
This is the land of the ‘Tylwyth Teg’ or the little
people: be careful when fishing that you don’t join their merry -
making, as it is
told that the last person to do so found himself transported to a beautiful
country from which it took him 7 years to return - local myth perhaps! This is
the Club’s stocked water, with two monthly introductions of Rainbow and Brown
Trout up to 7 lbs in weight. Fishing is by fly only with a 3 fish limit.
